A Wolf-Rayet star producing an extraordinarily powerful stellar wind. The star is surrounded by countless long, thin streams of ionized stellar material shooting rapidly outward from its surface. The streams originate directly from the star and extend enormous distances into space, clearly showing matter being carried away from the star. The entire scene is dominated by FAST RADIAL OUTWARD MOTION. Thousands of luminous particles, wispy gas streaks, and elongated plasma filaments race away from the star at tremendous speed, traveling from the center of the image toward the outer edges of the frame. The stellar material does not remain close to the star. It rapidly escapes into surrounding space, forming a vast expanding wind around the star. The flow resembles an extremely powerful continuous cosmic wind: dense near the star, then spreading outward and becoming increasingly diffuse with distance. Visible outward-moving particles and gas streaks make the direction and enormous velocity of the stellar wind unmistakable. The central star remains intact and relatively stable.
