A vertical stack of three widescreen film frames of equal height, every panel edge touching its neighbour directly and sharing one single edge with it, each seam a direct change from one picture straight into the next, and the stack running full bleed to all four edges. Hard low sun arriving from behind the subject with the sun itself outside the frame, the air clear and every distance crisp. The ochre sits in the ground and in the buildings; the sky stays pale and almost colourless across the top quarter. In the first panel the camera stands a long way off down a two-lane road running to a hill, a loaded pickup pulling away and the subject standing on the centre line watching it go. In the second the camera sits inside the cab looking out through the windscreen, the interior near-black and the road beyond burning pale. In the third the camera is at arm's length in profile, the subject shouting something after the truck. two invented adults, one leaving and one staying. Dust thrown up behind the truck and a dog running along the verge after it. One hard-edged shadow thrown toward the camera. The blacks light and open, the shadows warm, fine grain. A goodbye that one of them has decided is final.
