A vertical column of three frames of equal height. A shop window at night with the interior lit and a reflection laid over it. A different camera position in every panel — in the first the camera high above and looking down, the subject small on the floor of the frame, in the second the camera at the subject's shoulder from behind, following them away, in the third the camera far off down the length of the space, the subject walking away from it — the subject at a clearly different size in each and turned away from the camera in at least one. Black and white throughout, two thirds of the frame in flat true black, the lit forms emerging straight out of the dark with soft edges, going straight from dark to highlight. A lightbulb filament multiplied and tiled across the dark as a field, with one invented adult with a pale translucent complexion and very light hair, the face luminous against a saturated ground small and lit at its centre. One panel holds a single lit element alone in near-total black. Dust blowing across the ground in a low wind, with a yellow sodium lamp outside a window against a green interior fitting somewhere else in the frame. Greyscale only, the lightest value a lit highlight. Coarse grain across every surface including the flat sky, figure edges dissolving into it. A soft round bloom from every small bright source. Dreamlike and surveilled, a silent-era image, beautiful and faintly threatening.
