The travertine pink, pale and faintly violet facade of a ferry terminal waiting hall fills the frame and runs off all four edges, the camera slightly below so the courses converge upward. Twenty-eight rounded-square precast openings in seven courses of four, each reveal a hand's depth, every unit identical and each one carrying its own shade in a deeper version of the facade colour. Every pane of glass reflects one flat burning sunset sky, the lower courses holding the buildings opposite as warped bands of the same hot colour. Fine joints read as lines across the grid. Low sun across the facade. the repeat is counted and absurd, twenty-eight panes every one holding the same burning sky. Photographed on film, fine grain through the mid-tones and holding in the darks. Bureaucratic and beautiful by accident, a repeat nobody meant as a spectacle.
