A single colossal cuttlebone lies across a plain of black basalt, chalk-white and the size of a ship. Its whole upper face is finely striated into close parallel chalky ridges, one smooth rib running the length of the spine, the underside crumbling to powder at the edge. It fills the lower two thirds and rests flat on the black rock. Ridges razor-sharp and catching the light individually, the basalt beyond plain and calm. Deeply saturated azure sky above. One figure alone in tan walks past the tip, tiny. Hard raking sun from the left, one long hard shadow thrown right across the black. one hue family only, near-monochrome, very strong value separation from true black to clean white, clean sharp detail edge to edge, no colour grade, no grain
