A record-release poster in exactly two hues: a flat tangerine running to all four edges with a soft radial vignette lifting it lighter toward the bottom, a fine even grain over everything, and a laughing head cropped so only the top of it enters the frame from below, a head in profile at the bottom edge — cropped so only part of it clears the frame's foot and the rest is cut away, occupying the lower third, colourised entirely into the ground hue so its lights, mids and shadows are all the one colour — with a light lowercase word set immediately against a heavy caps word so the two are touching, the two weights sharing one baseline and reading as a single mark set in a face used only at the smallest size, condensed and set in four justified lines to the full measure, the kind of block that carries a whole production credit in deep violet over the middle half of the sheet across four lines, each line a different width so the block is ragged on both sides, and a genre list separated by interpuncts, repeating along a ruled border on all four sides so the subject's features read straight through the letterforms where they cross. Wednesday 5 June, doors 8.30pm, 3 Sauchiehall Lane G2 3LW, also overprinting. Plain, bold and much cleverer than it looks.
