Plain bone columns of unequal width at colossal scale, cropped hard by the top edge so their full height is unknowable, fluted top to bottom with the flutes running the whole height as continuous unbroken lines. The shafts run straight into a gravel bar in a river, shaft directly to ground. Wading in the shallows in ones and twos — massed small enough to read as granular surface rather than as people. Deep saturated green against weathered bone stone, and those two alone, the colour almost entirely drained. Soft diffused overcast, shadowless, every surface lit the same, with one clearly lit band or edge holding the top of the tonal range, bleached, the shadows shallow. The crowd granular and dense, the column shafts smooth and plain. Indifferent and enormous, a holiday happening at the foot of something.
