A narrow courtyard inside a members' screening room, walls of hot tangerine, clean and loud polished plaster filling the full height of the frame, one-point down its length. A sunken court with steps running down into the water on one side. The water is almost black and holds one pale reflection, and the opening at the far end carries a green hillside with dark cypress and one palm straight through it. Deep green clipped planting crowds in. High sun catches the upper walls while the lower walls sit in their own bounced shade. Every flight of the stair stands clear in the air, cantilevered off one face alone. Photographed on film, fine grain through the mid-tones and holding in the darks Monastic and moneyed, a view rationed down to one slot.
