Inside a nightclub entry hall, one enormous oval opening cut clean through the wall is cut through a near-black wall, its curve sweeping across the frame and cropped by two edges. The chamber beyond is flooded in hot tangerine, clean and loud, the whole volume carrying its own bounced colour with the form read through subtle value shifts alone, and the inner face of the aperture brightest where it turns. A shallow arc of wide steps climbs inside it. One figure alone stands in profile on the steps, small, in a long dark garment. The surround is tinted with the same colour rather than neutral. there is one person in a chamber built for three hundred. Photographed on film, fine grain through the mid-tones and holding in the darks. Solemn and theatrical, a threshold somebody has been summoned to.
