a hillside school built as a stepped complex of scarlet, clean and hot and holding at full purity coloured mineral paint over blockwork, the block courses reading through, thirty interlocking blocks stacked down a green hillside and filling the frame to all four edges, seen from above and across. Open-air stairs zigzag between the blocks and deep square windows cut into them. Dark cypress and one palm stand between the volumes, and one small round pool of cool water sits at the bottom of the slope. Flat overcast light, the shadows faint and the colour chalky. Photographed on film, fine grain through the mid-tones and holding in the darks. Mediterranean and fortified, housing built all at once as a hill town.
