an enormous coiled serpent at rest at impossible scale, cropped by at least two edges so its full size is unknowable, naturalistic and muted with its surface texture held sharp. It sits in a mossy forest gorge, a real place at real scale which the animal plainly overruns. one person alone in a white robe, walking away from the lens, tiny — about one fiftieth of the frame's height, too small to read a face, low and off centre, walking past for measure, unhurried and incurious. a hot orange and deep blue bloom field intermixed, both saturated, under a cobalt sky — tan, grey-green, cream and forest, every hue held low in chroma. soft diffused overcast, shadowless, every surface lit the same, with one clearly lit band or edge holding the top of the tonal range, almost documentary, the colour held even and low throughout. The hide dense and detailed, the ground and sky calm. Documentary awe, reported rather than performed.
